What does cosmetic dentistry include?
Cosmetic dentistry is all about making your teeth look their best. It includes an array of treatments aimed at improving the aesthetics of your smile so you look great and feel confident. There are many types of cosmetic dental treatments aimed at correcting poor alignment, correct uneven edges, improve proportions, eliminate staining, correct surface defects like cracks or chips, and close gaps. Some of the most popular cosmetic procedures include:
- dental implants
- braces and Invisalign®
- teeth whitening
Many patients benefit from a combination of procedures aimed at correcting multiple issues over a period of time. This type of full-mouth approach is often referred to as a “smile makeover.”
Can cosmetic dentistry improve my oral health?
Many types of cosmetic treatments can improve your oral health as well as improving the way your smile appears. For instance, correcting misalignments can make it easier to keep teeth clean and eliminate gaps and cracks where bacteria can lodge. Covering cracks and fissures with veneers can strengthen teeth and make them less prone to decay and breakage. Crowns don’t just cover stains, fillings and other defects – they can also help keep the tooth healthy by providing an extra layer of strength. Dental implants also help by restoring bite mechanics and avoiding additional tooth loss.
Will insurance cover the cost of my cosmetic dental treatments?
Most dental plans do not cover cosmetic care; however, if a procedure addresses other issues like decay or structural problems, part of the cost may be covered. Procedures like whitening that are purely cosmetic are not covered. If your plan does not offer coverage for your procedures, ask our office staff about payment plans and financing options that can help you fit the cost of your care into your budget.
